We had more guest readers yesterday for Read Across America Week! Thank you to our leaders at Central Office, Evonik, and community for coming to read to our students!

Read Across America Spotlight:
This week, Kindergarten and First grade will be watching Alabama's reading mascot, SHORT the Squirrel visit Birmingham, Alabama to meet different community helpers and to spread the importance of reading. Students will then draw and write about what they want to be when they grow up.

Thank you Mr. Brown for all that you do for Hollinger' s Island!

Congratulations to our Perfect Attendance winners of the red dolphin trophies for the month of February! Our student winner is Grady from Mrs. Phinney's Kindergarten class and our class winner is Mrs. Howell's Pre-K class. Great job coming to school everyday! Regular school attendance impacts academic achievement and social development.

Parents and Guardians, please take a look at our student digital device policy during the ACAP testing window happening later this month. No digital devices will be allowed in the testing room. All devices will be collected and stored in a lock box and returned at the end of the school day. Thank you for your attention.

Read Across America Week Spotlight: 3rd-5th grade students read books from the I Survived series by Lauren Tarshis and created wall displays focusing on analyzing character descriptions and traits.

Today kicked off Read Across America week. This week, our theme is Reading Builds Character! We had community and school leaders visit and read to our students today. A special thank you to our Partner in Education, Evonik, for coming to read and donating books for our outdoor library located in front of the school.

This week in the library, students participated in Jumpstart's Read for the Record! All classes read the book See Marcus Grow by Marcus Bridgewater. Kindergarten and First Grade drew and wrote about what they were growing in and Second-Fifth grade students used the book to begin a practice narrative writing for ACAP.

Reminder! Our Parent Advisory Committee will meet tomorrow, 2-27, in the cafeteria at 3:30 p.m.
