Hollinger's Island participates in several recycling programs. Some run the entire school year and others are seasonal. Below is more information about the recycling opportunities at our school:

Aluminum Can Recycling: Ongoing

Keep Mobile Beautiful will match the first $250.00 our school earns in aluminum can redemption. Cans can be dropped in the barrel at car pool on Monday and Thursday, in front of the gym any day of the week or sent by students. We barely reached our $250 last year.

Plastic Bottle Recycling: Ongoing

Primarily beverage bottles, #1 PET (the number is listed on bottom of plastic containers in the triangle). Caps must be removed, crushed is better. No milk cartons. Bottles can be dropped in the barrel at car pool line on Monday and Thursday, dropped off in front of the gym any day of the week or sent by students.

Cell Phone Recycling: Ongoing

We are collecting old cell phones for United Cerebral Palsy. They are used to defer the cost of sending mentally handicapped students to Camp Smile in the summer.

Christmas Light Recycling Contest: Now – April 8th

Bring old, no longer needed Christmas lights to school. It doesn’t matter what size, color or if they work. Recycle them instead of throwing them away. We won $200 for first place last year.

Mardi Gras Bead Recycling Contest: Now – April 8th

Beads will be weighed then donated to Augusta Evans Elementary for their “rebundling and reselling” project. We won 1st place the first year, second place last year. We are trying for first place again this year. It benefits our school and Augusta Evans. Thanks for your support.

Help the environment and our school while helping our students learn the importance of reusing and recycling. Winners of the contests will be announced at the KMB Clean Campus Celebration in spring. All recycling money and prize money is used to purchase additional playground equipment. Thank you for helping our school by supporting our projects.       Sincerely, L. Boney
