Principal's Corner

Welcome to Hollinger's Island Elementary

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you and your child to Hollinger's Island Elementary for the 2009/2010 school year.  Working together as a team, we can make wonderful things happen to ensure academic success for all children.

We continue to focus on achieving high standards, excellent attendance, and exceptional behavior so that students leave our school prepared for the next educational stage in their life.

We cannot do this alone.  We need your help.  A child's first teacher is their parent.  A child's education does not begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, August through May.  Learning takes place everyday, everywhere, and in all situations and includes both formal and informal learning.  I strongly encourage all parents to become active participants in their child's educational process.  Communicate with your child about their school activities and homework.  Ensure that your child reads daily.  Also, read to your child and have them read to you on a regular basis.  It is a fact that children, who practice reading daily, become better readers and also do better academically than those students that do not read regularly.

I also encourage all parents to communicate with your child's teacher on a regular basis.  Parents are asked to become parent volunteers, room parents, and become active in the Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO).  The PTO sponsors several activities throughout the year in which volunteers are needed to benefit the children and school programs.

The Hollinger's Island Parent/Student Handbook provides valuable information that you will find useful about our school.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school.

We are looking forward to a very positive and successful year.
